Where am I in my career?
Sunday, June 22, 2008 11:07In yesterday’s article, I’ve created a new category which is Self Development. Now we have some understanding about the definition of self development especially in the context of CMS.
In today’s article, I would like to continue to share on how we should start to develop ourselves to be successful in marketing our career.

As a start, we can begin by assessing where we are in our career. This self assessment will cover the following questions:
1) What kind of job are you doing now?
2) Are you satisfied with what you are doing now?
3) If no, which part of your job you are not happy with?
4) With your current capacity that you have now, can you change it?
5) If yes, what do you plan to do?
Majority of us will find question # 1) is the most easiest to answer:). No doubt it is also a screening question; if you are not working, then this assessment is not the right one for you. I will definitely share more about how to find a job in next week article.
When it comes to question # 2-5, you will need to be very honest to yourself and should be ready to leave your comfort zone. You will need to remember this is a self assessment, no one will be there to tell you if you are doing the right thing, even if they, they might be bias based on what they understand about yourself. Even for myself, as your career consultant, I can only provide the guideline as what I’m doing now but the best assessment must come from you.
Once you have completed this assessment, you should have some good understanding where you are now in your career. If you answer yes to question # 2, then you have an ideal job, but with the fast pace changing business environment, you should look at ways to continuously improve some skills or learn new skills. Your learning will never end until you die!
I’m sure you will have many clarification questions while doing this assessment. If you need any assistance, please leave your comments and I’m more than willing to assist you.
Till then,
Take care.
Regards
Yusoff
