What is the function a resume?

Farrah, thank you for your valuable comment. Yes, I agree with you that resume is not just a piece of paper with information about yourself, it is also a representative of yourself (your 1st impression to your potential employer).

In Part 1, we knew that resume is such a very common word to most of us. However, I’m sure everyone has their our definition and function of a resume based on your own experience.

In this Part 2, I’ll be sharing the function of a resume from the perspective of CMS and also from my personal experience.

Resume in CMS is an important tool used by a job seeker to get an interview. It will not guarantee to get the job but it will give a good chance to get a job.  This is why it is a very crucial process in CMS. I dare to say that this process will determine the life and death of a jobseeker’s career.

A resume will be the first job seeker’s interaction with a potential employer. If the resume fail to attract the potential employer’s attention for an interview arrangement, then the resume is just a piece of paper. If it secure an interview session, then it is a valuable and an effective tool in career marketing.

In my 8 years working experience, majority of job application that I received will have a resume attached to it. If I don’t receive a resume, I either reject the application or I will ask for it. Every job seekers MUST have a resume regardless written in whatever format. I’m sure everyone will trust me on this statement :)

Similarly to the reason why are you looking for a job, writing a resume also must have a reason. Commonly, job seekers wrote resumes to get a job or more specifically to get a interview. A well written resume will guarantee an interview session BUT will not guarantee to get the job.

TipsFor job seekers out there, when you are writing your resume, write it to attract your potential employer’s attention so that you will secure an interview session.

Before sending out your resume, get a reliable friend to read your resume and ask if he/she is interested to interview you. Fix your resume until you are can convince your friend.

Since writing a resume is a crucial process in CMS, I’ll be sharing in my future posts tips on writing an effective resume especially avoiding the common mistakes.

In my next week posts, I’ll be touching on the surface of Interview 101.

Keep sharing your comments. Looking forward to read them all.

Thanks

Take care

Best regards

Yusoff
